Online arts sessions for care experienced young people from Birmingham and Black Country.
In these unusual times, with many children having to take an extended break from school and their friends because of coronavirus, we've decided to turn WV Holiday Squad into WV Virtual Squad.
This Easter, the council and its partners won't be able to offer the hundreds of normal activities and events for children and young people that we had hoped to. Instead, we've been thinking hard about how the WV Squad could support children, young people and families who will be staying at home for the foreseeable future. So we are delighted to bring you WV Virtual Squad, packed with ideas about how you can keep active, entertained and amused in the weeks ahead.
You'll find details of 'virtual', on-line activities being offered by local organisations, including arts and crafts and sports and games, as well as links to local and national educational resources which you can use to continue your child's learning journey while they are off school. Please take a look around, find something you fancy having a go at and become part of the WV Virtual Squad today!
Wolverhampton Virtual School, in conjunction with West Midlands Virtual Schools, is delighted to bring ‘Connect & Create’ to our children and young people in care.
Connect & Create is a new online feature of the Artslink programme, which provides at-home arts & cultural activities specially selected and commissioned for care experienced children & young people. We know that the arts can present a hugely important opportunity for connection and creativity for care experienced CYP and their key adults during this isolating time, as well as helping to continue their learning.
So we hope you will dive in and give it a go – creative challenges, artist demonstrations, career pathways and a gallery to showcase some of the work produced. Activities will be updated regularly, so the site will grow in content, and you can sign up to receive updates.
Artforum is the gallery's group for young people aged 14-25 with an interest in art. You can take part in creative art workshops, trying out new techniques including papermaking, printing, filmmaking and 3D sculpture. It also gives you the chance to explore exhibitions further, see behind the scenes and help out with workshops, music nights and fashion events.
1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month 5-7pm at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
It’s free and all materials and refreshments are provided.
You don’t need to book or let them know you’re coming - just drop in.
