in Care

What is being in care all about?

Why Am I in Care?

There are lots of reasons why young people come in to care but it’s important to remember that it is not your fault!

Often it’s because your family aren’t able to keep you safe or care for you at the moment or there may be difficulties at home. Your social worker will have a discussion about this with you.

Some young people return home quite quickly, for others it may take a long time, some young people stay in care.

We will work with you to plan your care and support. We will discuss what is planned for you at your review.

We hope this guide might help you understand a bit more about being in care. Your social worker, carer and staff are there to answer any other questions you have.

Wolverhampton’s Promise to Children and Young People in Care

In Wolverhampton we strive to achieve the following:

  • Develop respectful and empowering relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Ensure children and young people are at the centre of everything we do.
  • High aspirations, high expectations

What is the pledge

The Pledge is a set of promises that we have made to all children and young people in care and those who have left care. We have written down our promises so you will know what we should be doing.

If you feel that we are breaking any of our promises then you can contact us.
